LJSVIN, December 22. j The south-bound New Plymouth express, running late on Saturday afternoon, collided at a,level crossing at the entrance to the I/uvin railway yard with a motor delivery van owned by Mr C. H. Martin, grocer, and-driven by Mr R. Anderson. The van was carried about twenty feet and thrown off ; th° line on the opposite side, whero two boys were standing on tho footpath waiting for the train to pass. Ono boy, Wilfrid Martin was Btruck on tho head l£v this van, and sustained a ffractured skull and severe wound. Ho was taken to the Palmerstou North Hospital todav.. Tho other boy, a "Chronidc" runner, Gordon Milroy, was renderedunconscious, but is now recovering. 'The driver escaped unhurt. Tho van was, badly knocked about. AVAIROA, December 22. A motor accident occuncd yesterday afternoon on tho Mohaka Ilill, when a car containing Mr and Mrs Stewart, Mr and Mrs Petersen and family, .somersaulted 'down a hill with tho occupants, who were badly bruised and knocked about. Several wero removed to tho Wairoa Hospital, whero they are now doing well. Tho car was badly damaged. DUNEDIX, December 22 Tho body of Thomas DaWsou Tate, 91, who lived in a hut, near the Shag Point railway station,,was found badly mutilated near the line. Evidence at tho inquest, which was adjourned, showed that Tate was very deaf. Ho had apparently 'been ' struck by tho South bound train. GOltE, December 22. Itobert Oswald Hamilton, a labourer, of Mat-aura, .single, committed suicido yesterday morning by taking poison. Hamilton was suffering from disease and was in a depressed state of mind.
