COST ACCOUNTING.

MEETING OF INSTITUTE. Tho annual general meeting of the New Zealand branch pf the Australasian Institute of Cost Accouptantß was held yesterday. In presenting tho annual report, the president of tho New Zealand Council, Mr W. W. Waddilove, of Wellington, said that during iho year the membership had shown little change, thpre being. 29 Fellows and 9 Associates on the roll. Tho first examination in New Zealand was held in March cf this year, and uho New Zealand, candidates had done very well. " The meeting was asked to consider certain proposals as to finauce laid before them froui the head council, Melbourne. Strong forward -action was necesaary to rouse the mepiberg to take fuller interest in the activities of the Inptitute, the potentialities of which were very great. In moving the adoption of the report, the president- welcomed suggestions trorn members for furthering the interesis •of the Institute. Mr C. Harlo seconded the adoption of tlic report, and emphasised the need of educating the public and HlO manufacturers ill the aims and aspirations of the Institute. After discission, the report was adopted. The following officer-'! were elected for the en3uin<* yepr:—President, Mr W. V,. Waddilove; couucil, Mcssrß P. Harle (Christchurch), F. W. Deigbton (Cliristchurcb), H. T. Whittingham (ChristchurclO, Pi. A. Z. Turner (Auckland), H. E. Bourgeois (Napier), and W. T. Morrk-011 (Dunedin). The meeting, having considr.r&d tho question of finance, resolved io make certain proposals to the haad council foi-_ an energetic camnjijgn in all the chief centrcß. The district representatives were to appoint local committees to organise tiir holding of public meetings, Jocture& and other uaeful mwns of extending the ben-siit ipf the organisation. Mr P>. A. Z. Turner said that this was thq -age of the specialist, and everyone was expected '0 do or know one thing- thoroughly. Coat Accounting was one of those specialised subjects, and the public and particularly the commercial men must hevo this brought to their notic*. Mr F. W. Deighton spokq of t/ie necessity fpr notifying members of the latest publications on the subject of costing, and a motion was carried asl{ing the head council to incorporate this information in the Bulletin about to be issued.
