OBITUARY.

MR J. W. BOBBY.

, 'On Monday, evening . there . passed an ay one of Marshland's oldest and jn'osfc respected settlers in Mr 'John' William Dobby, of Hills road. Born in Yorkshire in 18-35, he came out to New Zealand in 183-8, and of the thirty-six succeeding years, thirty-three of them were spent in Marshland. He had carried on dairy-farming extensively for many years, and while being recognised as a shrewd farmer, his uprightness and integrity were proverbial. Being of a retiring nature Mr.Dobby took little part in local politics, but- was an -ardent supporter of the Methodist Chnrcli, one of his daughters rbeing a tcII- known missionary to the Maoris in Auckland. He leaves a widow and a grown-up family of eight sons and five daughters,, one eon having made the supreme' sacrifice in Franoe. The flags at the, Marshland Public School a.ud were flown at halfmast on Tues'day. • ■ - ' •

The funeral, which took - place on Wedhesday, was ivory, largely, attended, the "service- being conducted by the Beys. J. Gray and B. Dudley. Many kiatiful floral tributes wero placed on tbe r grave;''
