Helmling ("Mamari," Worcester street) entertained a few friends at afternoon tea, prior to her departure on a holiday tour of the North Island. Those present were Mesdame3 P. Helmling, S. H. Helmling, C. Mulhane, H. T. Newman (Hastings), C. Lewis, Hardie, Hessell, Caven, Stewart Selway, and Miss Selway. The ladies m charge of the various stalls at the Elmwood fete, to be held on Saturday in Elmwood. Park, have been working most enthusiastically for many weeks in the interests of the fete, and, as a result of their labours, the stalls on Saturday will he attractively stocked with a great variety of goods, which will be sold at reasonable prices. In addition, all kinds of amusements and side-sTiows will.be provided,.and the gathering will be enlivened with spirited music. The parish gathering to..be,held at 368 Herefordqtfcreet on Saturday next promises huge success. There will be stalls stocked with saleable commodities, all at reasonable prices, various side-shows, and plenty of fun for the children. The total proceeds will be given to the Building Committee as a Christmas offering to the Avoriside Sunday School Rebuilding Fund. Mr and Mrs A. S. Taylor, of "Sherlics," Knowles street, St. Albans, who left in Aj)ril last on a visit to England and the Continent of Europe, returned to Christchurch yesterday, after having spent a delightful eight months' sightseeing. They travelled Home via Panama, and returned via Suez and Australia. Their itinerary included: London, Edinburgh, the Scottish lakes, Glasgow, Burns's country, the English Midlands, Switzerland, through the St. Gothard tunnel to Italy, where they visited Venice, Florence, Milan, Rome, Naples, Genoa, then Monte Carlo, Nice, Marseilles, Lyons, and Paris, and back to England. A farewell visit to the disabled soldiers in the Rannerdale Home was paid yesterday afternoon by Miss Paula Scherek and a concert party consisting of Miss Aileen Warren, who contributed pianoforte selections and played the accompaniments, Mr Hamilton Dickson ('cello), Miss Scherek (violin), and Mrs J. S. Kelly. The programme submitted consisted of instrumental trios and duets,, and in addition Miss Scherek delighted her audience by singing several songs very sweetly. The concert, like many others given by Miss Scherek and her concert party to the boys in Rannerdale Home, was greatly appreciated. Yesterday afternoon's gathering was tinged with some sadness,'.as it was Miss Scherek's farewell visit prior to her departure for Melbourne. In appreciation of Miss Scherek's kindness to them, the disabled soldiers presented her with a thermos flask, accompanied with the following note: —"Rannerdale Home, November 27tli, 1924. Dear Miss Scherek, —This being your farewell appearance with us boys, we thought that in consideration of your goodness of heart in playing to us, and also for the cheerful manner in*which you have always appeared amongst us, wo could not let you go away without making you the possessor o£ a small memento to remember us by. Would you please accept the accompanying present with our very best thanks and the best of warm wishes for a long and continuous run of good lioalth and good luck from your admirers in the Home?" Miss Scherek, | who was deeply touched on receiving this expression of the disabled soldiers' appreciation, presented them with an autographed framed photograph of herself.

On Wednesday evening a most enjoyable concert vras given to the patients of the Military Sanatorium by Miss Paula Scherek" assisted by the following artists:—Miss Jessie King. Miss Joyce Staff, and Miss Aileen Warren (accompaniste). Every item was thoroughly* enjoyed, and the patients are much indebted to Miss Scherek for her kindly action in playing to those bed patients who were unable to be present at the entertainment.
