Bovliag Club. Mr F.. C. Cooper presided over a | meeting of the committee of the Bow!j ing Club. A motion of sympathy wa; j passed 'with Mr H. C. S. Correspondence was read | from the Centre with regard to the 1 Centre competitions, and it was decided ! to enter one team in the four-rink ehsrtj- ■ pionship and two teams in the pennant : competition. Two new members ~ere ! elected. The opening day was fixed for : October 11th. when the members and j visitors will be the guests of Mr F. C. : Cooper. It was reported that the green i ami surroundings were in splendid eoni dition as a result of the attention of ' the new greenkeeper. A vote of thanks i was passed to Messrs Cooper, Black, | and Henley for donations of climbers, ; annuals, building materials, and the j erection of a bridge and an arbor. j Children's Party. A most enjoyable fancy dress party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs Pi. Main, the occasion being the birthday of their daughter Beverley. T-ho dining-room was tastefully decorated with festoons, balloons, and spring flowers. A jolly time was spent with games and dances, and a delicious tea was provided for the children, who included Jean O'Nei!, Nance and Hardy Wilson (Lyttelton), Audrey Bowden, Lorna and Zelma Palmer, Lois, Rona, and Noel Button, Ngaire and Ray Lye. Colin Fester. Malcolm Ashle}-, Doreen, Revel aiid Douglas Browne, Bey Middleton. In the evening the adults were entertained, those present including Mr and Mrs A. Lye, Mr and Mrs J. Wilson, Mr and Mrs C. Bowden, Mrs Button, Mr and Mrs Palmer, Mr and Mrs Browne. . Life-Saving. A meeting of lady members of tho Surf and Life-Saving Club is to be held at Mrs Newburgh's residence on Tuesday afternoon to arrange stallholders-, etc., for tho opening day. It is hoped that.a large number of ladies will attend, and give the support that they have so generously given at other opening days in the past. A member of the committee of the club was held during the week, when Mr T? Newburgh presided. A vote of thanks was passed'to tho Beaeh Improvement Association for a donation of £lO. i . Messrs Buttle and Sarelius were deputed to confer with representatives of the Association and arrange a scheme. A. vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Butler, who has arranged to supply" a sot of crockery for the pavilion. The following were recommended for appointment as beaeh inspectors: —Messrs H. Buttle, C. Booth, L. F.' Regnault, J. C. Macdonald, F. J. P. Dick, and A. Allen. Redcliffs Church Fair. 'The Mayor ' (Mr W. H. Nicholson) will open the St. Andrew's Church Fair to be held in the church grounds this afternoon. If weather is vret, the fair 'is to be'"held in the Community Hall, Redcliffsr Redcliffs Bowling and Croquet Club. A meeting of ■ tho Redcliffs Bowling, and Croquet Club was held on Wednes-, day, Mr 11. W. Harris presiding. Reports were handed in showing a very J satisfactory state of progress in re- ■ spect of support forthcoming financial-' ly. Mr J. A. Russell was appointed , treasurer pro tern. j Bedcliffs Tennis Club.. A mixed team from the Redcliffs. Tennis Club paid a visit,to the New Brighton Club during the week, in response to an invitation. ' A most enjoyable afternoon was spent. The Redcliffs tennis courts have now received,their final top-dressing, and it is expected thftt 'they will'be ready for use on or # before the opening day. Sumner Horticultural Society. Mr T; E. Whitfield presided over a meeting, of. the committee of the Sumner Horticultural Society. Last year's •schedule was received. It was decided to hold the show, earlier by two weeks this, year, Wednesday, November 19th, was_ fixed for .the event. The Fire' Brigade "Vas thanked for the use o£ its social room. ,
