WOULD-BE ASSASSIN.
WOMAN WHOSE COURAGE FAILED. INTENDED TO SHOOT M. HERRIOT. (BY CABLE—TRESS ASSOCIATION'— COPTRIQST) (kCSTBALJLAX AND X.S. CABLE ASSOCIATION'.) PARIS, September 23. A woman who had been waiting outside the Government Chateau do Eambouillet handed a revolver to a gendarme and confessed that she had intended to assassinate M. Herriot, but that hor courage had failed. The woman was placed Under arrest. (Received September 24th, 8.10 p.m.) PARIS, September 23. The arrested woman is Madame Ponejean, publicist. She- told the police that M. Herriot was persecuting hor. She said she had proofs of tho guilt- of MM- Caillaux and Malvy, tho recently pardonod ox-Ministers, and intended to get arrested and to produce, them in tho Police Court. Tho woman, against iwhom there ara many previous convictions, was taken to an inSrmw'J. The police believe phs is insane.
She told tho police she had several times intended to shoot M. Herriot, but always desisted because he looked so uice.
