SCOTTISH SOCIETY.

. ♦ — : — The .monthly ceilidh of the Scottish Society wis held in their rooms, Manchester street on Thursday evening. In spite of the ineiement weather, there was a large assemblage of members and friends. Chief John S. Chisholm presided. Piper J. A. Patterson opened with a selection on the Great Highland War Pipe. Mr C. S. Thomas, president of the Caledonian Society, was present as the guest of the evening. Many recent arrivals from Home were in evidence. Reference was made to the benefit concert in aid of the Presbyterian Orphanages, on Thursday, 14th inst. ■ During the evening the chief, on behalf of the Society, presented„Mrs L. Scott with • » music case, in recognition of her valued services at, many of 'the socials. . Mrs Scott, who is taking up'her residence in Dunedin, was accorded a hearty vote" of 'thanks. Musical and other items were given during the evening as follows:—Sorigs, Mrs A; L. Scott, Messrs; G'oslin, Kingsland, Ritchie, and Forbes; recitations, Miss Gale and Mr R. Macfarlane; violin solo, Master Alex Munro; ; 'cello solo, Mr A. H. Williams; Fling, MSsses Ford and Gimblett; Seann Triubhais, Miss' Joy McLachlan; Gillie Calum, Miss May Grigor; •. Jig, Miss Joan Craig; Hornpipe, MSss Mary Aitken; Reels, the juveniles. The accompanists was Mrs E. A. Smith.
