FISK JUBILEE SINGERS.
SEASON CLOSES TO-NIGHT. The season of tne Fisk Jubilee Singers will close to-night at the Caledonian Hail, when the final concert will be given. The concerts so far have been crowded nightly and only those w&o attended discovered how much above their expectations was the quality of the entertainment provided. "The concert party comprises eight excellent voices, and the work is presented with remarkable effect and finish. The jubilee choruses alone would be the making of aay show. Tiey come as a distinct novelty, something quite different to what is usually encountered on the concert platform, and their emphatic appeal and pronounced popularity' are undoubted. Th* choruses sung during the course of the new programme last night were: "Oh, Hail tfs Ye Free, "My Lord, What a Mourning," the Storm," "Let Us Moye Along," "Hear Dem Bells," "Climb Up," "The Gospel Train "Get You Ready." "Hard Trials,' Roll, Jordan, Roll," and "Good Night Beloved. There was nothing arfected or sanctimonious about any of them; they all w;nt with a splendid evrmg. Many indjidual items were also presented.. Mr Herbert Maxwell, basso, sang "Rocked in tne Cradle of the Deep," and Mr Harry Penn, tenor, 'Red Devon by the Sea," both songs being en cored. Miss Ron Thompson, soprano, who has a nice well-toned full fresh voice, sang with distinction the difficult nolo, "0 Bid Your FaithM Ariel," also "The Lost Chord" to which latter number tte chorus contributed a concerted finale movement Miss Belle F. Gibbon*, one of the original Fisk Jubilee Singers, has developed # a voice of remarkable qua'.itv, and in fact is billed as a "baritone. n She sang "Castles I Have in Drams." A male quartette, .two tenors, a baritone, and a basso, san-r two most eniovable numbers. "Love's OM Sweet Song, arid "The Rosary." Miss DaTina Morrison, operatic soprano, was heard in Sin;; Me th- Rosary," and "Carrofrm." and wns recalled several times. Miss Marjone Alwyne (contralto) and Mr Hsrrv Penn W). Ban? two duets, "Belreve M> if A" Those Endearing "Young Charms" and "Sally- M»» Alwyno abo contributed "Ben Bolt, and Mr Penn a monoVxm.e, a selection from "The Sentimental B'oke." Mr Penn proved himself a skilled and effective elocutionist as well as an accomplished singer. Miss Alwvne's rich booming voice made tjwtwn, lar appeal to those present. Mr Huntley Spencer, a sweet voiced tenor sang most artist'cally that charmintr number , Adieu BW" Miss Madeline Joyce at the Pi*n6 nlaved the accompaniments most pleaßingly. The season, all too short in the estimation of those who Jrave and «U°£ d «» concerts, will close 10-rnihi when the foregoing programme will be repeated.
