FRESH-AIR HOME.
PROPOSED SCHOOL. % For the purpose of discussing matters in, connexion with the erection of a school at the Cashmere Hills for the education of the children in the Fresh Air Homo, a meeting was held yesterday in the Jellicoe Hall, Mrs H. T. J. Thacker presiding. Tho chairman said' the Canterbury Rugby Union, Commercial Travellers' Association, and the Harbour Lights Girls' Club were selling tickets for the Charity Day football match, tho proceeds of which would he devoted by the Union to the fund. Mr S. F. Wilson, chairman of the Rugby lUnion, stated that the Commercial Travellers' Association had 1000 tickets to sell, most of which, he thought, would be disposed of in the country. The tickets would cost Is and 2s each. A letter was read from the . Town Clerk giving permission of tho City Council to sell tickots on the streets on July 4th. Mr' Wilson said the whole scheme of erecting such a school originated with Matron Trumble, of the Fresh Air Home, and it was.due to her enthusiasm that the Union had taken the matter up. Mrs J. C. Holmes stated that there Were at present sixteen boys and sixteen girls at the Home. Mr Wilson said it was not known what the cost of the proposed school would be, but whatever amount was raised by public subscription would rarry with it a £ for £ subsidy from the Government. He understood that the Education Board would equip the school and ■ supply the teacher for it. Mrs Holmes said the Department had already supplied the teacher and tho equipment, but there was no place for the latter at present.
In reply to questions Mr Wilson said he understood that it was intended to erect a building to accommodate 70 children. Charity Day matches usually resulted in raising £3OO or £4OO, but with the sale of tickets on the present occasion it was hoped to raise an additional £2OO. This should result in the whole of the money required' for ihe scheme being raised in one effort. He undertook to have tho sale of tickets pushed in Lyttelton.
