LONDON, June 22
The Berlin correspondent of "The Times" says the new Zeppelin, constructed to the order of the United Status, is expected to leave Frederichshafen early in August, making the trans-Atlantic journey in 80 hours. It will cross the North Sea to a point in Scotland, and then follow the route of tho British airship which crossed the Atlantic two years ago.
This Zeppelin Germany has to deliver to the United States on account of reparations. If trial flights -prove successful the American Government intends to use it for postal and packet transport purposes, though a small number of passengers will also be taken each trip. . . JSverv oossible precaution is being taken to make the ship proof against such disasters as those to which so many of it predecessors have fallen prey, but the Germans declare that after experiences with 100 airships in the war thev are very confident of complete success. . As no substitute is yet sufficiently cheap for commercial aviation, coal gas must still be used. But two compartments at both ends of the ship will be filled with helium, these being the sections usually involved in explosions through being struck by lightning during storm discharges in the upper strata of the atmosphere. Tiie fbtal length ct the new Zeppelin 16 650 feet; the hull is divided in 13 compartments containing 70,000 cubic metres of gas. Passengers, post, and cargo iocether may weigh up to 41 tons. There are nine motors, each of 400 horse-power. . The vessel will be navigated from the foremost, chamber; besides this there are three cabins for officers, one dining-room, and eight rooms for the crew. For 20 passengers five large rooms are fitted with' every modern hotel luxury and convenience, including running hot and cold water and toilet rooms, and the whole can he converted into night sleeping moms. The kitchen, in which there will be cooking bv electricity, is completely lined with aluminium. . The Zeppelin is expected to attain an average velocity of 110 kilometres an hour at least. \
