CHURCH REUNION.

THE POPE INTERVIEWED.

ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY'S

OPINION

f BT CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION COPtWOHI.) (ACSTEAI.IAN AXD B.Z. (MTU.ft ASSOCXATIOR.)

(Received June 23rd, 7.50 p.m.)

LONDON, June 23,

Interviewed by the Century Magazine, the Pope states that he is much interested iffi the possibility of t!he Western Churches re-entering the Roman fold. But he makes it plain that Rome will not alter her dogmas in order to secure union.

The Archbishop of Canterbury also doubts the possibility of physical union between the Anglican Church and Rome. Theoretically it would be splendid to have all the churches working together as one body; but practically there are almost insurmountable difficulties in the way of such a union.
