CAPE TOWN, June 22,
The final voting figures show remarkable disparity between the votes and the actual representation. The South African Party, with a minority of 29, polled half the total votes. The Press urges that this makes a strong case for electoral revision.
It is believed that General Smuts will resign on Monday. General Hertzog's Cabinet will number 11. A new portfolio of Labour will be created if Labour consents to enter the Cabinet.
The Standertou election has been fixed for July 16th. The Nationalists have not yet announced the candidate to oppose General Smuts there.
Mr Jielman Boos, chairman of the Transvaal Nationalists, has invited the Dutch members of the South African Party to join the Nationalists on the ground that the former is now nothing but the old Unionist Party.
[Colonel Claassen, an elected member of the South African Party, resigned the Standerton seat in order that General Smuts might contest it.]
