Acceptances #r the Napier Parli Racing Club's Meeting are due to-day. The proposal to make- tho "Wellington Racing Club's Winter Meeting a three dejs' fixture has not been carried into effect, jincl the meeting is now announced for Wednesday and Saturday, Julv Oth and 12th. The Winter Hurdles and Wellington (Steeplechase arc v.orth 12-50 sots each, and the principal flat races are the Parliamentary Handicap of 650 sovs, and Winter Oats Handicap of SCO sovs. Nominations close on Monday next, Juno 23rd. The excellent acceptances received last eveninr; for the first day of the Ashburton County Racing Club's Winter Meeting, which is to be hc;d on Friday and" Saturday nest should bo Jiighl* gratifying to the executive of the southern club. Although postponements do not usualiy make for success, this fixture appears "to be an exception to the rule," and the a mended programme published since the club had to foregot its original dates in May has attracted very good fields all through. The Hack Steeplechase alone finds thirteen proved jumpers standing their ground, and the programme containing as it does hnrdlo racing, steeplechasing, flat racing and trotting events is one that should satisfy the to;>te of every follower of racing. Given fino weather the club's enterprise should be amply rewarded. If the dates applied for by the various clubs holding meetings in the spring are approved by th" Racing Conference which sits in Wellington on July 10th. the Auckland Racine Club's Spring Meetincr will not elf*' l this spawith the Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan Meeting. The dates applied for b'v Auckland are November M, and 3rd, and for the C.J.C. fixture November Bth, 10th, 12th. and loth. SOUTH CANTERBURY HUNT. Tho annual point-to-point steeplechase of the South Canterbury Hunt was held on' Saturday afternoon. The locality of the steeplechase was close to Pleasant Point, the finishing post being in Mr J. DriscoH'e farm. The programme contained throe events, and tho courso extended over 3$ miles for two of the events and over two and a half for tho other. Twenty-four obstacles were negotiated, including gorse and rail jumps, two road doubles and a creek. Bill Turpin, who scored in the farmers' roco, had to carry an additional 7lb, liavinj? been prepared by a licensed trainer, P. T. Eogan. J. N. Clarke has the Logan Pointer— Mara oolt pacing very well. This colt should make * top-liner, as he is very level-1 headed. Guy' Parish, ftrll brother to Anon Guy (lm S&Ja), champion' colt trotter of the world, is being jogged about prior to doing a. light season. Ho: is a' beautiful mannered obit, and has all the qualifications of a champion. He is a splendid, clean-gaited trotter, and ahbuld b° a decided acquisition to the trotting etock of this country. J. D. Smith is busy with the three-year-old Erua and a maiden pacer. Both ar© doing useful exercise. The caretaker of the Brighton course is busy widening the track at the start of the mile and a half.
