(AtfBTBAtIAK AJffi S.i. casus AsSociATiOH,) (Received May 14th, 8.10 p.m ; WASHINQTON', May 13, The Senatorial Committee hearing the charge of alleged fraudulent election of Senator Mayfield brought Congress into investigation of the Ku Klux Klan for the first time since the Klan's modern revival. The hearing developed into a serions affair when women were ordered from the committer room and a witness told terrible Stofiea of torture, cruelty, and invisible government by the Klaii, especially in Texas. Former Klan officials described the espionage system Whereby neighbour spied Upon neighbour, and a few malignant persons wrecked personal Vengeance on whites and blacks alike, the lattef being subjected to unrelenting persecution and intimidation. A witness further described the intricate but elfective political organisation as maintained by the Klah, which, through military discipline, destroyed and made candidates for various offices. Attempts are being made to widen the Senate enquiry into an investigation of the Klan nationally, and there is agitatioh for both parties to adopt an anti-Klan policy at their conventions.

Mr Peddy charged the Kvi Klux Klan party with fraudulent and reprehensible measures taken to defeat him in the election for a Senate seat.]
