A CONSTABLE'S DEATH.
TAXI-DRIVER CONVICTED OF MANSLAUGHTER. (PBESS ASSOCIATION TZUSOBAK.) AUCKLAND, May 14. John Andrew Fox, taxi-driver, was found guilty, of the. manslaughter • of Constable Todd on November 14th. While returning from gapakura m the early morning, the car. collided, with the cart of a Chinese, with the result that Todd was instantly killed. _ ' The evidence showed that 'lodd find others had been drinking in the city the evening before, and later went out to Papakura, where they had. more liquor.' They also consumed a quantity in the car during the return trip to town. , ',..'.'• The jury added in its verdict a strong recommendation for. mercy, holding that the prisoner had been led into the escapade by Todd. Sentence was-deferred till Saturday.
