FOOTBALL.
RUGBY. SECONDARY SCHOOLS' COMPETITIONS. On Tuesday evening a meeting oi the executive of the Christchurch Secondary Schools Association was held to discuss the opening of the season's Rugby football competition. It was decided that this year, as in last season, the first, second, third and four grades should be open as regards age. The coils' competition open to players under 15 years on April Ist will again be restricted to one team from each school. It is proposed to start a light-weight grade for secondary school players who are under 7 stone 7lb at the commencement of the season and who are under 15 years of age ° n \, hfprevious seasons, matches in the first and second grades will taue place on Saturdays all other games being played on Wednesdays. Large entries are expected. The motion was earned. ■ Mr R H. Bigga-r reported on .th» conierenco of sub-unions held in Caristolrurch recently and was accorded a vote of thanks. It was decided.to ask tho Canterbury Eugby Union for a grant in respect to school football, and that some assurance bo given that a good Canterbury team .visit Ashburton- during tho season. It was resolved that the Grounds Committee go into the question of lighting a ehed or .playing-mea, on the .Show Grounds for night training. The question of accident insurance was again discussed, and it was decided to circularise clubs and inform th<jm that participants in the .scheme must join on, or before, April 30th. • Regarding postponements for races, it was etated that one country club would seriously be affected on opening day. Tho Union decided to abide by its ruJos and not grant any postponement.
PENINSULA SUB-UNION. At tho last meeting of tho Peninsula SubUnion, Mi- Wm. Robinson presided. It was decided to open . the competitions on May 3rd. Entries for the senior grade were received irorn Little River, Little Akaloa, United Bays, Akaroa, Okain's Bay, and Le Bon's Bay Clubs, and for tho junior grade from Little River, Akaroa, and TJnitedi Bays. Xho following were appointed referees for the season:—Messrs Reg. Mason, V. Craw, A. Radford, J. Mcintosh, W. E. Jitcobson, S. Lo Comte,' and T. Mould. The following were appointed selectors for Peninsula representative teams:—Messrs I'. Mould, S. Le Comte, and P. Kearney. It was decided that the senior competition be played in two rounds, and the junior in three. ' The following is the draw for the first round (seniors):— ' May 3rd—Le Bon's v. Xlie tress representatives were not admitted to tne ruevting, DUt at us conclusion the iciowing resolution was handed to tnem tor puoiication:—"xne meeting, while aitirming its loyalty to i*u ß Dy, enters a strong protest against the failure of the Central Executive of the JNew Zealand Rugby Union to deal promptly and reasonably with the difficulty ' that existed between the Marist Old Boys' Club at Christchurch and the Canterbury Union." The resolution was carried unanimously. When seconding the resolution, Father Kane pointed out that, as the meeting had not known both sides of the case, it could not very well pass judgment on tho matter, but there was no doubt that the executive had failed in its duty in not having the facts of the case looked into at once. He emphasised the fact that the question was a football one and not a religious one. All the other house clubs were looking to Wellington for a !©ad. a:nd tlle y should not debar the boys of Roman Catholic schools from entering into the Rugby code.
