SCIENTIFIC PARTY.
RETURN FROM CHATHAM ISLANDS Four members of the scientific party who have been exploring the Chatham Islands, returned to Christcliurch yesterday. They were: Messrs H. J). Skinner, 8.A., Dunedin (anthropology); J- Marwick, M.A. (fossil life), Maxwell Young, F.C.S. (marine fisheries); and W. Martin, B.Sc., Dunedin (botany). "When a "Press" representative endeavoured to interview the members who came back yesterday, he found that they were reluctant to impart any information regarding their work. Mi Skinner said that the party were quite satisfied with the results of their explorations. Mr It. S. Allan, of the Otago School of. Mines, had remained behind in order to carry out his investigations into the geology of the islands, as this was a field which had not been previously explored. Mr Skinner said that with Mr Young, ho had been engaged in the investigation of shore pools. Ho described the inhabitants of the islands as being the soul of hospitality. At the present time he could not impart any further information, but on his return to Dunedin would supply a report of his work. The other members of the party were equalfy reticent about their work.
Messrs Skinner and Young returned to Dunedin by the second express yesterday, and Mr Martin will leave for the south to-day.
