OTIRA TUNNEL.
INSPECTION BY RAILWAY OFFICIALS. In pursuance of a decision come to by the Railway Department in connexion with their talcing over the control of the Otira tunnel, a party of Departmental officials left Christchurch for Otira yesterday for the purpose of inspecting the tunnel and its working. At the conclusion of the inspection a report on the tunnel will be forwarded to the Railway Department regarding their taking over the administration of that portion of the line from the Public AVorks Department. The inspecting party included the following railway officials:—Messrs F. O. Widdop, supervising engineer, Wellington; E. E. Gillon, chief mechanical engineer, Wellington; P. H. Morey, acting district engineer, Greymouth; G. W. Wyles, assistant signal engineer, Wellington; H. J. Wynn, signal engineer, Wellington; A. J. McCredie, district engineer, Ohris'tchurch; J. Wray, signal inspector, Greymouth; R. S. Kent, district engineer, Greymouth ; l! W- Robertson, assistant locomotive engineer, Addington; and P. R. Angus, locomotive engineer, Greymouth.
