A DISTINGUISHED FREEMASON.
VISIT OF EARL OF CASSILLIS. A distinguished Freemason, the Earl of Cassillis, First Grand Principal ol the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter, Scottish Constitution, who is making a tour of inspection of the Scottish Chapter Masonic Lodges of the Dominion, arrived in Christchurch last evening from Dunedin.
A special meeting of the Canterbury Kilwinning Lodge, Royal Arch' Chapter, No. 136, Scottish Constitution, was held in the Masonio Hall, Gloucester street, last night, which the Principal attended, among those present being representatives of the Scottish, New Zealand, and English Constitutions.
The Principal, who was accompanied by Provincial Grand Scribe E. F. J. Williams, Prov. Grand Chapter of New Zealand. Scottish Constitution, stated that the Grand Chapter had always taken a keen interest in the welfare of overseas Chapters, and said that in this connexion he had himself travelled many thousands of miles. -He referred to the pleasure it had given him to consecrate tho new Chapter in Dunedin, and install the new Grand Superintendent.
While his Lordship's plans regarding the length of his visit to Christchurch are not definitely eettled, it is expected that he will remain in the city for two days, subsequently, going to Auckland to consecrate Chapter St. Andrew Kilwinning. He will afterwards go across' to .Australia to visitvarious Chapters there, which should occupy some three weeks, after which he will come Joaek to the Dominion, • The distinguished visitor is to be accorded a civil? reception at noon dav in the >CJty Council Chambers. The Countess' of CassjTis, who is at present in the North Island, is expected shortly to visit Cllristchurch.
