MAJOR BARNES'S RETIREMENT. Major and Mrs Barnes, who arc retiring from the managership of the Salvation Army Prison Gate Home, Addington, were last night given a farewell social in the Citadel by tho United Corps of the city, and suburbs. Colonel A. I). Carmichael presided, over a largo attendance. -.
The chairman expressed the goodwill of all Salvationists to Major and Mrs Barnes, and trusted that they would live long to enjoy their well-earned retirement.
Others who testified to tho Major's work in Court and at the Home were Mr S. E. McCarthy, ex-S.M., Mr J. C. Seagor, J.P., Chicf-Dctetivo A. Cameron, and the Ecv. P. Revel], Anglican Court Missioner. Tributes were also paid to tho couple by Ensign G. Pratt, representing tho field officers, and Major J. R. Dixon, young people's secretary. Major Barnes, in returning thanks, said that, although ho and Mrs Barnes wore severing their connexion with tho Home, they would both continue to take a keen interest in Salvatioa Army affairs generally. The proceedings ■ were interspersed with musical contributions by the City Songsters, the City Silver Band, and the Mandolin Band, and refreshments were subsequently served. Major and Mrs Barnes were tendered a farewell evening on Tuesday by the officers and inmates of the Prison Gate Home. Colonel It. Henry, chief secrotary for the Dominion, representing Commissioner B. Hoggard, who was unable to bo present, presided, and was assisted by Major A, Seotney, men's social secretary for the Dominion. Previously the couple were tendered a Idtehen evening at Sydonham by tho local corps.
