FAIRFIELD FREEZING WORKS.

ANNUAL PICNIC. A special train of seventeen carriages left Ashburton on Saturday morning £ind conveyed the Fairfield Freezing; "Works employees and their friends to Timaru for the annual picnic at Caroline Bay. The excursion "was perfectly organised by Mi' R. Houston (hon. secretary) and the committee, and the result wan & thoroughly enjoyable day's outing*" without tho sligntest hitch. The Railway Department hod met tho committee's wishes in a very generous spirit by placing amplc--carnages at tho disposal of tho excursionists, os -well aa in other directions, and the members of tho committee expressed their warm appreciation of the consideration which waa shown and tho help given by the railway authorities. A number of complimentary tickets were sent out for use by the members of the hospital andi maternity home staSs and for tho use of convalescent retniraed soldier patients. A letter waa received from the Hon. W. Noaworthy, s<s!mow!cdging the of a complimentary ticket, and regretting that owing to a prior engagement he would be unable to accept the hospitality of the committee.
