IMMIGRATION AND FINANCE
MR ASSEY'S RETURN.
MR MASSEY'S VIEWS
(2BES3 ASSOCIATION TZLEGBASI.) AUCKLAND", January 25. Mr Massey, interviewed, said that New Zealand's part in Empire aviation could be but infinitesimal, but it must be on right lines. Probably both aeroplanes and seaplanes would receive encouragement. He heartily endorsed the scheme to bring lads to New Zea~ land for farm work, and he said he would probably announce Sun arrangement on somewhat similar lines, but on a larger scale than the South of Ireland venture.
On the general subject of immigration, Mr. Massey said: "I hajve been active, but I cannot yet disclose details.'' He could not recommend the placing of a loan in London at presewt, not that our finance was hampered, but lie would like to see money easier at Home, where our credit mas very good. People here did not realise the position in Britain at the present time. It was very bad indeed. There was no necessity for calling Parliament together earlier than usual. He did not believe there was any foundation ill the report that Canada was attempting to throw oif the yoke of Empire. Questioned on the subject of proportional representation, Mr Massey said: "This country will never agree to it. I am satisfied on that point."
