RAILWAY FINANCE.
* THE MINISTER'S RESPONSIBILITY. (BPSCIAL "O "THS FIBSS. ') AUCKLAND, December 6. A brief reference to railway finance was made by tlie Hon. J. 6. Coatcs in a speech yesterdaj'. He said it was hia responsibility for the time being to see that the railways paid. The way to do it was to give the> General Manager a free hand, aa far as possible. He had a very hard row to hoe. As soon as a profit was made, the country's demand for lower freights, better carriages, and jnore trains, could be met.
