CANTERBURY MARKETS.
(it ccs coinoxcui. ssrroa.)
Tuesday Evening.
Keports from Auckland are to the effect that the quantities of new potatoes on tho market are increasing, but in the aggregate they are yet light. However, they are assisting to spin out supplies, and retailers are only buying old potatoes from hand to mouth. Some enquiry has come from Auckland and business has been don© at £ll 10a f.o.b. s.i. Tho market, though quiet, shows no change in quotations. Ihe Jiakopo and i'ukaki sail north this week, but with what quantities is not known. Two Island boats sail from Auckland this week, winch is likely to encroach on tho stocks held. INVEROAECrILL, October 9,
An active campaign in- support of the Dairy Control Act has been .carried on in Southland for the last few weeks, and dairy farmers throughout the province have been addressed by leaders in the movement. "Without exception, the meetings have been unanimously in favour, of the Act, principle of control being generally accepted, such enquiries as are received being in reference to details of the operation of the Act. It is fairly certain that the Southland voting will i» heavily infavour of the measure. WHEAT MARKET. (Received October 9th, 8.40 p.m.) October 9.
