DAIRY PRODUCE.
CONTROL CAMPAIGN. (FRKS3 ASSOCIATION TELEGKAM.) MASTERTON, August 29. The Dairy Farmers' Unions' campaign to prepare for a referendum on the Dairy Control Act was opened in Alasterton to-day when a meeting of dairy farmers was addressed by Mr i'ear, Dominion organiser. Mr i'ear aaid it was proposed to establish freezing works in Manchester capable of caxj-ying a year's supply, 'thereby ensuring a monuily supply of butter and cheese at a uniform prioe. Jj'inance was suggested as the difficulty to control, but tne Union was suggesting a Co-operative Dairy Farmers' Bank with a capital of £10,000,000 guaranteed by the (State. As a safeguard to the bank, id or 1-ikl per lb sinking fund would* be paid in, and it would have the guarantee of the country's produce behind it. Business men were becoming interested, and offered 6o work through the bank and pay in their drafts for goods purchased in London. The Board controlling the bank's finances in London would then be cabled to pay direct to the merchant for the goods purchased, thereby saving the huge exchange between Great Britain and the Dominion, and working up a reserve fund for the bank. On the motion of Mr B. Roberts, president of the Wairarapa branch, it was decided that this meeting of dairy farmers representing Masterton and the surrounding districts pledges itself to work and vote for dairy control between now and the referendum.
