MR. WILLIAM BURNETT. (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") DUNEDIN, August 29. His iirst appearance m puoiic was when he contested the Bell Ward seat with Mr P. Hally, Mr Burnett being defeated by 3(i votes. Subsequentlv Mr Hally resigned in his favour. in March of 1904 Mr Burnett was returned unopposed for the Bell Ward. He was in turn chairman ot the General Committee and the Reserves Committee of the City Council, and in the latter position did much to help Mr Tannock to beautify the city. He was chairman of the Drainage Board tor five successive years. He also served on the Athenaeum Committee, was a member of the executive of the Otago A. and P. Society, a member of the Reserves Conservation Society, and a lay canon of St. Paul's Cathedral. Mr Burnett contested the Mayoralty witn Mr John Wilson in 1911 and whs returned by a good majority. Some years ago deceased purchased a run at Mount Stuart, where he had resided since. He is survived by his widow and a number of sons and daughters, most of whom reside at Mount Stuart. One of the daughters is Mrs C. E. Statham, wife of the Hon. C. E. Statham, Speaker of the House of Representatives.

MR C. BRIMICOMBE. The death is announced from Rakaia of Mr Charles Brimicombe, for fifty years a resident of the district. He was born in Opawa fifty-eight years ago, his father being engaged on the Lytteiton railway line, and afterwards employed as ganger at Rakaia. As a boy of eight, the late Mr Charles Brimicombe entered the llaiiaia Public School. He was afterwards in the employ of the late Mr Chas. Mackie for about ten years, and subsequently for thirty years served the late Mr G-. D. Holmes, of "Holmeslee." Mr Brimicombe was one of the. fast-dis-appearing band of old-time coachmen. He continued in the employ of the "Holmeslee" estate, after his occupation as coachman was gone. Twentynine years ago Mr Brimicombe married Miss Lobb, of Rakaia, and he leaves a family of five children. The funeral, which was-largely attended, took place at Rakaia Cemetery on Monday. Deceased was a iype rf the early pioneer, hard-working, paving the way for the easier times of to day.
