"No man should! be appointed to a parish until he hab had something to do with the back-blocks," said Archdeacon F. G. Evans at a Church gathering at Te Henui (reports the "Taranaki Daily News").. The archdeacon said that too much praise could not be lavished on those brave pioneers, who went into the back country to carve out homes for themselves. Personally, he looked back upon his experiences as a back-blocks'' missioner with real pleasure and gratitude for the tremendous kindnesses received at the hands of the people in country districts.
