THE UNEARNED INCREMENT.
ft STORY OF GREEK OFFICER'S WIVES. (BT CABLB—PBB99 ASSOCIATION—COPOTOHT.) (aTJSTBALIAH AND M.Z. CABLX AB3I,CIATIOH.) ATHENS, July 11. A strange story has been revealed of a Greek officer who had 12 wives, all living in the city unbeknown to each other. Captain Constantino Vassis, charged before a court-martial as a deserter, confessed that he had married a fresh girl every year. He first married when he was a corporal, stipulating that his wifo must have sufficient money suitable to his rank, and was satisfied with a dowry of £6O. A year later he assumed a higher rank, and asked for a larger dowry. With each new wife thereafter he promoted himself at each annual wedding, always asking for a higher dowry. When arrested he had just married a society girl with a dowry of £3ooo.
