CONCILIATION COUNCIL.

DAIRYMEN'S DISPUTE.

An industrial dispute, between the Canterbury Dairytnons' Employees' Industrial Union of Workers and fourteen Canterbury dairy factories, was heard ftt a sittiajf of a Conciliation Council yesterday. Mr W. H. Hagger presided, and the assessors were— For the employers, Messrs C. P. Agar, S. J. Smith and F. Cooper; for the employees, Messrs H. Branthwaite and C. Bonn. A complete agreement was xeached after an all-day sitting. It was agreed that tho hours of worfa should not exceed fitty-two per week, from October Ist to March 31st, and forty-four per week from April Ist to September 80th, and that time worked, in excess of BjJ hours a day between the former datea and 8 hours between the latter, should bo paid for at time and a-quarter for the first two hours, time and a-half for the next two and double time thereafter. The following holidays, it was agreed, should be paid for at special rates—King's Birthday, Christmas Day, -New iear's -Day, Good Friday and E&stor Monday. Sunday work is to be paid for at time and a-quarter for the first 3 hours and time and a-half thereafter. Tho assessors then retired to consider tho wages clause. On resuming, it was stated that the employers' classification of wages had been agreed to and the following weekly rates had been fixed:—(l) Where manager and fifteen hands are employed, 2 first assistants, £5: one second, £4 12s; one third, £4 7s; all other adults, £4; (2) Whore a manager and ten to 1* hands are employed, one first assistant £5; 2 second assistants, £4 12s; one third at £4 2s, all others, £4. (3) Where a manager and G to 9 hands are employed, first assistant £5,. second assistant £4 12a, all other adults £4. (4) Where a manager and three, -to fivo hands are employed, first assistant £5, second assistant, £4. (5) "Where a manager and one or two hands are employed, general adult hands, £4. (6) Youths at tho following rates—Under 16 years £1 2s 6d, 16 to 17 years £1 10s, 17 to 13 £1 17s 6d, 18 to 19 £2 Ss, 19 to 20 £2 12s 6d. Females under 19 yeara £1 6s, from 19/ to 20 £1 17s Rd, 20 years and over £■} 2a 6d. It was agreed that a boiler attendant requiring to have a first-class certificate should bo paid £1 13s per week, an 3 eecond-olaes men £4 Ss per week. The Union agreed to a rate of Is 9d an hour for nil workers employed as casuals during September or during the following six months after March, suck workers to be paid: ordinary rates.
