ANTARCTIC HEROES.
ALBERT MEDALS FOR GALLANTRY. (bt cable—pbess association—copybiqht./ (australian and n.z. cable association.) LONDON July 8. The King awarded the- Albert Medal to Ernest Joyce, William Richards, Victor Hayward (deceased), and Harry Wild (deceased), for gallantry while members of the Shackleton Expedition in 1914-17. The party landed at McMurdo Sound to establish a chain of depots. The steamer Aurora, was blown out to sea, but tho party carried out this programme, covering 9'50 miles in 162 days, though A., Spencer Smith had to bo dragged on a sled'ge 350 miles, dying nineteen miles from their destination. Lieutenant Mcintosh also collapsed and had to be carried 100 miles.
