REPLIES OF MINISTERS. (PE18» ASgOCIATTOXT TBLBQBAM.; WELLINGTON, July 4. Tn the House of Representatives this afternoon, Ministera replied to questions on tho printed Order Paper. Among the replies were the following: Members of Parliament who are also members of Education Boards, should not use the latter position for political purposes, I>ut it should not be necessary to promote legislation to deal with the question of election to Land Boards, for which members of Parliament are ineligible.
Taxpayers already have an'opportunity to furnish returns at the end of July instead of. March, if they apply to the Commissioner for permission. The Government is keeping in mind the lifting ol tne moratorium in December, 1924,. which is causing concern to farmer, with mortgages tailing due. The scope of the State Advances Act is to be widened, with the object of rendering assietanca to borrowers where mortgages are called up. Satisfactory financial arrangements having been made, instructions have been issued to dispose of all recommendations on hand for loans for houses under the Discharged Soldiers SettloBient Act.

It is not proposed to amend the legislation providing for widows' pensions, to enable these to be extended to the wives of men suffering from incurable or prolonged illness.
