CASUALTIES.

TRAMWAY ACCIDENT. Frank Empson, aged nineteen years, a son of Mr Ernest Empson, the wellknown teacher of music, who resides at the Esplanade, New Brighton, was the victim of a serious accident last night. Ho was boarding the 6.10 p.m. car for Christchurch at a point nearly opposite the New Brighton Hotel, the car being in motion, when he lost his footing and fell beneath a trailer, the wheels of which passed over his legs, badly crushing thorn. Ha was given medical attention by Dr. Stevens, and conveyed into Christchurch on a nonstop tram, being then taken to the Hospital. Late last night his condition was reported to be fair. DEATH FOLLOWS ACCIDENT. As the result of an accident which occurred on the morning of last Monday week, Mr Patrick Mackle, aged twenty-five years, died in Lewisham Hospital last night.' Tho deceased, who was the son of Mr and Mrs Bernard Mackle, two well-known residents of Kaikoura, was recently married in Christchurch, and was travelling with his wife, after the honeymoon, to Kaikoura, in a motor-car, when it collided with a horse and trap at Belfast. The shaft of the trap struck him, and he suffered a compound fracture of hia left arm, and injuries to the chest. He was taken to Lewisham, and appeared to be making satisfactory progress towards recovery. Yesterday morning he made a statement to a police constable with regard to the accident. Some time later, however, he suffered a relapse, and died as stated. A sad feature is that both his parents who had come to Christchurch owing to the accident, had been told yesterday that he was out of danger.

(PRESS AB3OCIATION TEL2GBAH.) WELLINGTON, July 4. Whila changing his clothes after finishing work at the City Destructor this evening, George Herbert, married, residing at Pe tone, collapsed.. He was picked up unconscious, and conveyed to hospital, but was dead upon arrival.
