ANNUAL' MEETING.. .OF- CANTERBURY ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of the Canterbury Licensed Victuallers' Association was held, yesterday afternoon, Mr Arthur Rose presiding over a fair attendance of members. The president, in his address, congratulated members on the very complimentary remarka by the Licensing Benches regarding the conduct of the hotels in Canterbury. Hoteikeepers coui,d rest assured' that -the quality of the article supplied to them in the past would be maintained under the new order of things, and that they would receive every consideration so that they would be abie to conduct their business to the satisiactioa ot themselves and the public in general. Of hia own knowledge, he, knew: that it was the earnest desire of the promoters of the new undertaking to show the public that they were endeavouring. to do every thing possible for the improvement of the licensing trade of the Dominion. A deputation from St. Saviour's Orphanage, consisting of Messrs K. Matheaon and ix. M. Barmehr, waited on the meeting and outlined the re-building schemo.iin connexion with the Orphanage and requested financial assistance. • The deputation received a very attentive hearing. The president said that the Association as a body could not So anything, as a good many individual members had already subscribed to the fund in connexion, with'tho orphanage appeal. He was quite sure, however, that if an appeal were made to the. individual members who had not already subscribed, they would assist this, as they did any other, worthy object.
