The House of Eepresentatives further discussed the Sinking Fund Bill, which proposes that the Sinking Fund shall be administered by a commission consisting of the Commonwealth Treasurer, the Chief Justice of the High Court, the Governor of the Commonwealth Bank, and the Solicitor General without fees. Such a commission, it was claimed, would prevent the fund being used by improvident Ministers. [ls, the House of Eepresentatives •ast Friday, the Treasurer, in moving the second reading of the National Debt Sinking Fund Bill, explained that the debt stood at £412,000,000 sterling, of which £364,000,000 represented war indebtedness. - It was proposed to extinguish'this in fifty years oy annual contributions of £1,500,000 from the consolidated revenue, half, of the profits of the Commonwealth Bank, and from other sources.]
