TELEPHONE CHARGES.
INCREASES ANNOUNCED. Hie following amended telephone charges are announced in the Budget which was presented to the House of Representatives last night. It is proposed to bring the new scale into force on October 1st —the date on which Penny Postage will operate : Schedules of New Telephone Charges for Business and Residential Connexions as compared with existing Charges and Alterations originally Proposed. Xo. 1 Class (Multi-office Exchanges of over 3000 subscribers). Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. Base rate area—approximately 28 square nv.les, or ;3-mile radius. Business Residential Connexions. Connexions.
In addition to the above, permission is made for two-party business connexions in same block for £10; two-party residential connexions in same cable-box area for ±'7; and four-party residential connexions in same cable-box area for £6. jS!o. '2 Class (Single Office Exchanges, 3000 to 3000 Subscribers). Examples: Wangaliui, Hastings, Palmerston North, Hamilton, Gisborne, etc. Base rite area—approximately 20 square miles, or 2J-mile radiua.
In addition to,the above, provision is made for two-party business connexions in same black for £3; two-party residential connexions in same oable-box for £6: and four-party residential connexions in same cable-box area for £;>. No. S. Class (Single-office Exchanges of under 1000 subscribers, with unrestricted attendance). Examples: Blenheim, Cambridge, Carterton, Greymouth, Hawera, Hunterville, Motueka, Oamaru, Piopio, Thames, Nelson, Waipawa, Waipukurau, etc. Base rate area—approximately 12 square miles, or 2-mile rudius.
In addition to the above, provision is made for two-party business connexions in same black for £7; two-party lesidential connexions in same cable-box area for £5 10s; and four-party residential connexions in same cable-box area for £4 10s. No. 4 Class (Single-office Exchanges of under 1000 subscribers, with restricted . attendance). Base rate area —approximately 12 square mile 3, or 2-mile radius.
