ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
MEETING OF COUNCIL. Tho Council of tho North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society mot last evening, Dr. C. M. Anderson presiding. Tho financial statement showed that the credit balance amounted to £539. License fees for native gam© totalled £2OB. The curator (Mr I>. Hope) reported that during December, 1921, Ranger Main brought a consignment of 5000 shrimps from tho Ashley. Those wore turned into, a raco, and they proved a success. When liberated, they appealed adults, and the majority lnui spawn .attached. In the autumn of IV&i, ho found a number of small shrimps, but only one adult in ti.e race. small shrimps, ho presumed, were the young of the original ones liberated in tne race, the large ones having practically disappeared. In continuation of the experiment, tho race, was again filled with water and allowed to remain for another year. This autumn ho agaiti emptied tho race, but could find no' trace of any shrimps. Their entire disappearance from the fresh water of the ra-ce within fifteen months suggested t.liat it would be useless to introduce them into any of the streams in which they could not reach brackish water. v
The curator stated that wort at the gardens during May had been ti.e clearing out of races and preparing tho hatchery for the coming stripping seasail. He -would probably b© sible t>o put the trap in the Sulwyn l>y next week. He understood that tho lake had been opened. Office-bearers were elected as follow: President, J>r. -C.
