Sir A. Conan Doyle,- in a lecture recently, said: "It is ridiculous to scoff at spiritualism because experimenters have brought forward phenomena that are not explicable bv ordinary physical laws. I insist that the men who have associated themselves, after long "study, are of such calibre that their testimony cannot be lightly discounted. Above all things, the whole spiritualist cause suffers from the fact that most people insist on regarding spiritualist phe-i nomena from the standpoint of isolated phenomena, instead of looking "n the subject as a coherent whole. The recent manifestations to which 60 much) prominence has been given in the Press is a case in point, and it is lamentable that no reference has been made to the large volume of evidence thnt has been accumulated regarding such phenomena, and as to the way in which their recurrence could be prevented. Mv friends and I ■welcome honest criticism, but we feel that the time has pone by when the evidence accumulated can be regarded as visionary.''
