In the course of a fewremariia at the meeting of th© Dunedin Manufacturers' Association on Tuesday evening respecting the task of conducting and controlling an Exhibition, Mr W. It. Hayward placed some interesting figures before members. He stated that the Christchurch International Exhibition, held in 1906-7, had cost £183,873: apace fees had amounted to £28,750 and gate money to £44.145. The actual loss incurred had -Been £81,430. Tlie New Zealand and South Seas Exhibition, which had' been held in Donediu in 1889-90, was promoted as a company with a subscribed capital of £15,000, of which £9657 had been paid tip. The loss to the citizens had been approximately £BOOO. and as donations h'ad amounted to £>4oo and a Government grant of £IO,OOO had been obtained, the actual loss was £18,400. The visitors to the South Seas Exhibition had numbered 618.622. or an average daily attendance of 4849; and the attendance at the Cnri'tcbnrch Exhibition had totalled 1.967.632 persons, or a daily average of nearly 14,000. After a brief discussion on these figures a resolution was adopted affirming the support of the association to tie Exhibition to be held in- Dunedin in 1925.
