REPLY TO GAELIC SOCIETY, (BI CAM*-CMBS ASSOCIATION—COEIBIOHT.) (ACSTBALIAS AMD S.Z. OABLX ASSOCIAIIO*.) . LONDON, Maroh 6. Lord Leverhulme, replying to the secretary of the Gaelic declined to delete the territorial suffix: '{the Western Isles" from his title. He added that letters he had received from representatives of three-quarters of the Western Isles indicated that the deletion would give greater' ofiencejthere than satisfaction to those who wanted the title removed. y [Viscount Leverhulme, by'assuming the territorial Buifix "of the Western Isles," criticism in the Highlands. In this connexion the Gaelic Society of Inverness, on January 26th, adopted the following resolution: "The Gaeiib Society of Inverness has learned with deep regret and disapprobation that the KighVHon. Lord Leverhulme has assumed the stylo 'Of the Western Isles' on his being created Viscount. As in so doing he is trenching on the dignity of an ancient title, namely, that of Lord of the Isles, which is iiotv -borne by his gracious Majesty the King, the Society wouM like to believe that the assumption of the said title arose out of thoughtlessness on the part of his Lordship, and that if, he but realises that the assumption of that; title by ,him, or any other, it an encroachment of a Royal and ancient title and an offence to Scottish *enti4 raent, he will at once take steps toV change his title to one which would her more in keeping with present-day.con-l ditions and actual fact." _ Copies of the resolution were to be sent to Vis count Leverhulme, the Prime Minister, the Secretary of State for Scotland, members of Parliament for Highland constituencies, and to Lyon King of Arms for Scotland.]
