Captain Colbeck is a prominent member of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, and was one of tho prospective candidates selected 1 by the short-lived Fanners' Political Party. He was selected to contest the Ohinemuri 6eat at the recent general election, but owing to tho witndrawal of the Farmers' Party he -was not nominated. Captain Colbeck said he was disappointed with the way the farmers were treating their leaders, instancing especially the lack of interest taken in tho dairy pool aJid the agricultural banking schemes. "One-fifth of our season's butter," he said, "was landed in London in one month, and then they say there is no necessity for a dairy pool."
