ATHLETICS.
I CANTERBURY CLUB. Th big carnival of the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Association, to bo held at Lancaster Park this afternoon, promises to be a Success. A. long and varied programme haa ueen arranged, and as amateur athletics ia just now more popular than has bo*n the -cfese for many years, there should be a large attendance of the public. The fact that C. i±. Taylor, the Australasian and New Zeaand champion middle distance man, is competing, should in itself be a. big draw, while ■1 the best athletes in Canterbury have nominated for the various events. Particular interest i 3 being shown in the firms' relay race, always a popular event. The afternoon's sport will commence at 2.15 o'clock. ELLESMERE CLUB. Th* EUesmer* Athletic- Club will hold their annual sports at Leeston on Saturday, December 16th (Anniversary Day). A record entry haa been received, and P. O'Shea. and P. Hill are among the competitors in the cycling events. A road race from Christchurch, starting at 9 a.m., will finish at the sports ground. A special feature of tho sports will be the Highland dancing.' All the weM-known enthusiasts are (competing. The track is in first-class order, and some good racing is expected. A special train will leave Christchurch for Leeston at 8.45 a.m. A luncheon booth, will be on the. ground, and milk and hot water can "bo obtained. AMERICANS FOR NEW ZEALAND.
