Captain Pearce has painted a background altogether charming in its portrayal of lake, bush, and Maori village scenefV. Although executed specially for th'is display, it- 1 has none of the roughness Of Stage scenery. It has been done as a work of aft to stand alone when itl--pfe-Sent pufpese has been served. The front portion of the picture portrays hithinff in hot pools and cooking over Roiling springs. BeVohd hfd wMfei and food houses on the shorts.Jf 4 lake and bush-povored hills rise frdm the 'further beaches. The mm «Aflel has beeh built with rock SmuOrdUght from the thermal distriStSd father realism is lent to the scene by the scanty growth of \ Srtnb It & «* Admirable piece of »»7eW *** the ? übli6 are thot °^ hl y appreciating it-.
