Wilding wns getting a much better length and was more aggressive. Ho took the next four games and the set, 6—l. Ho started well in the second set and established a had of s—l. In the seventh gnme he had throe match points, but Gianville retrieved the position by good play.and took the game. He also got the next, but Wilding took ninth game and tho set, 6—3. Gianville did not justify his high position in the status list last evening. He gave only a few flashes of his proper form. He mad« no attempt to force the pace «ad contented himself with a defensive game. Wilding attacked most of the time, his driving being excellent. He made the mistake ef being over-cautioua a! times. His <*.rvioe was good though he did not tecum many acee off it. It waa w«II-placed and this pave him a valuable initial advantage, (r'anville has now to meet Aitken, who chould ,win the match ira'ess G-lanvill© strikes batter form. In a ladies'.challenge matah, Miss Muirson defeated Mrs Wake, 3—6, 6—5, 6—2.
