MEETING OF GENERAL COMMITTEE. The General Committee of the Canterbury A. and P. Association met yesterday afternoon. Present: Messrs R. E. Alexander (chairman), R. M. D. Morten, A. Chamberlain, J. 0. Apologies for absence for received from Messrs John Deans, E. Hay, K. J. S. Murchison, and T. H. I Overton. Hallway Matters. A letter was received from the general manager of the New Zealand railways regarding concessions on the railways at Show time. (This letter was published, practically in full, in "The Press" on November 7th). The chairman said that tho railway authorities were showing a disposition to meet them as far os they possibly could. There were, he added, some statements in the general manager's letter that they were not able to refute. It was decided to receive the letter, and to convoy the thanks of the Association to the general manager. Tho Progress Loague wrote regarding the setting out the aims of the Canterbury District Railway Committee. The letter was received. Insurances, Replying to a question when the accounts for payment were under consideration, the chairman said that the Finance Committee had decided to ask the secretary to make arrangements for dividing the Association's insurances between four offices. Accounts totalling £4426 7s 3d, were passed for payment. Ram Fair. Tho dates for next year's ram fair were fixed for March 22nd and 23rd. The Royal Show. Tho chairman referred to comments which appeared in a recent issue of "The Press" regarding tho poor response made in connexion with membership of the proposed New Zealand Royal Agricultural Society and remarked that ho thought that the comments were absolutely justified. The percentage of those who had signified their willingness to become members of tho Royal Agricultural Society was much too small, and it would be very pleasing if more could be induced to join. Replying to Mr Coop, the chairman said that seventeen gentlemen had signified their willingness to become members. Mr Coop: You want 117, New Members. Tho following .were elected life members:— is.
