TATTERSALL'S HORSE SALE.

At Messrs H. Matson and Co.'s Carnival Horse Sale, held at Tattersall's yesterday, the entries totalled 125, of which 50 per cent, changed nands. Several of the winners at the Show came forward, and anticipation was rife as regards the prices the; would realise. However, all the would-be purchasers on the Show Grounds failed to materialise, and for the most part this particular section of the sale did not change hands. \Vorn-out trotters and worn-out thoroughbreds also failed to change hanfe owing to the inflated estimates of their values by their present owners. Ordinary hacks, cobs, harness horses and ponies were the principal sellers, and these particular sections were very varied as regards their standards of quality and age. However, the fact remains that fully 60 per cent, of the entry changed hands, which must be considered nighly satisfactory taking into consideration that Canterbury is a flat country and that a second-hand bicycle for the most part represents the comparative value of most quadrupeds other than good fresh horses and thoroughbreds or trotting horses, sound, fresU and not track weary, and with a prospective chance of being able to earn money. These particular classes did not come forward, although there was a fair private enquiry for them. For anything other than that unless it was something that appealed especially to the eye of a buyer to fill his private wants, no speculative market was forthcoming or could be found.
