TRAINING COLLEGE STUDENTS. (press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, May 20. In. reply to the statement made at the Educational Institute's Conference in Wellington, that traineea of the teachers' training colleges were walking the streets of Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, out of employment, the secretary of the Education Hoard stated that of 103 training college students who left the college on January iUst, ninety-one were placed in positions on February Ist, and have been in continuous employment sinoe. Of the twelve not employed on February l6t, moat were offered positions but declined to take them because the positions were in the country, and no teachers who were willing to take a position in the country had been out of employment for more than three weeks during the year, except one whose home was remote, so that his services were not readily available for relieving work. All the 103 ex-stud-ents were now in permanent positions. The board haa been studiously careful to safeguard the interests of training college students, and has refrained from filling positions vacant during the last four months of the year with permanent teachers if tlie positions were suitable for training college students.
