ST. JAMES'S METHODIST CHURCH.
* THE OPENING SERVICES. In continuance of the opening services of the new St. James's Methodist Church, Cashmere Hills, a service of sacred music, interspaced with brief addresses, was held on Tuesday evening, anil was largely attended. 'Xhe. Jiev. W. Baumber, wLo piesriea, said that the trustees wished him to express their sincere thanks to all givere in connexion with the erection of the new church. In addition to the many liberal donations in money, there had been, presented to the Church a very fine two-manual organ, a communion tahle. and a table for the vestry, a Bibie, hymn-book, and chair for the pulpit, besides other gifts. He ha-J also been asked to expiess their appreciation of the work done by the contractor, who had in every way studied their wishes. _ A financial statement was given by the treasurer, Mr D. E. Parton. The total coat of the church and section would be about £2350, and towards that upwards of £I7OO was in hand or promised. The church building and loan fund had promised to lend the balance for ten years without interest, to be repaid bv quarterly instalments. _ Addresses "of congratulation were given by Bev "W Beady and Mr L. M. Isitt, M.P., vice-president of the New Zealand Conference. An enjoyable programme of sacred musio was given by the Durham street Church choir, under the direction of Mr E. Firth. In addition to several anthems, a solo was sung by Mrs Firth, dueta were riven bv Mrs Firth and Miss Twose, and by Messrs Blakeley and Spratt, and a quartet by those previously named. . The choir was afterwards entertained by the trustees at Duff's tea-rooms. There will be in future regular morning and evening services in the new church, the preacher next Sunday being the Her. W. Batunber.
