TROUBLE OVER.

butchers at kaiapqi FREEZING WORKS RESUME. The trouble at the North Canterbury Sheepfarmers' Freezing Co., Ltd., ivhich occurred on Tuesday, is over, the men having resumed work yesterday morning. Ml- F. C. Ellis, secretary of the Freezing Trades' Union, made the following statement yesterday: —A wrpng impression has been conveyed by what bas been published in regard to this matter. What happened some uf the men on resuming work on J-ues-day morning thought that the Arbitration Court's decisioti regarding wages reduction, as. reported in 'luesday morning's newspapers, was to apply immediately; the men were also aware that the secretary of the union was leaving for South Canterbury that day. The men were anxious to know whether the killing rat© was to be reduced, aud asked their delegate to get them together for a few minutes to discuss the matter, and to instruct him (the delegate) to get in touch, with the secretary ot the Union fo aMOertain whether wages wore to be reduced that day. The discussion lasted a few minutes longer than was anticipated, and on the works' manager stating that unless the men resumed work immediately ho would have the sheep turned out, this created a bad impression with the men lor the moment. One man remarked, in an undertone, "Well, turn them out." This was not official from the' men nor was it the men's attitude; they were prepared to resume work, and would have done so in a. couple of minutes if the works' manager had not interfered. As evidence of this, the men returned to their hooks and were prepared to go on killing but there were no sheep put in for them; as further evidence that they were prepared to work, when the management put tho | sheep in yesterday morning they were I there to go to work, and did so. lherf I is no ill-feeling nor arc? there differences ! between the different departments as i has been suggested. Tuesday's trouble i was not due to that cause.
