The quarterly shipbuilding returns of "Lloyd's Register of Shipping" state that, deducting 617,000 tons, on which work has been suspended for dome time, the tonnago actually under construction in the United Kingdom on March 81st, amounted to 1,619,000 tona which was 271,000 tons below the average for the twelve months immediately preceding the war.' The tonnage building abroad was 373,000 tons below the total in December, 1921. The chief decrease was m the United States, where the tonnage was only 3i per cent, of the total building during March, IS-19.
