CAMBRIAN SOCIETY'S SOCIAL.

The Cambrian Society of Caaterbury'j first social of tho session waa held on Wednesday night at tho Cadena- tea rooms, the oppor* tunity being taken to bid an (Official farewell to Mr F. W. Jones, managing director of the Harvester Company, who :i» shortly leaving for America. Mr Jones ias been one of the etauncheßt, and most influential supporters of the Society. Amoa«st those present were Mr David Jones, M.P., and Mrs Jones. . The chairman (Mr A. Johnu) in hi* opening speech, welcomed several newly enrolled members, who were makiag their first appearance at *"« Society'* fKftctions. The proceedings <:ommenoed with «11 present joining in singling '"Hen wl*d. ly nibadau'' (the land of my lathers). The gems of the .evening wero soprano solos by Madame Ger» 'trade Anderson and tenor SoliM by Mr Tom Hogera. Madame Andeiton. who has a very snoot voice, sang "Daffodils »-blowing" and aa an encore "I hear you calling" me." Mr D<swgay greatly aiansed the axidiehce with. a song "One of the Boys" and two humorous character sketches. Mr B. G. Owen also entertained with » poem, "St. Peter's Miatake," and a monologue entitled "Wonders." Miss Edna Harper and her brother, Mr Esmond Harper, gave a, piano nolo and vidlin eolo respectively, their items being greatly appreciated. Mr Tom Hogera have an excellent rendering of "Nirvana," and as an encore eang "That Old Fashioned Mother of Mine." A competition organised by Mrs Hugh Wiliiams, added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening, the prize being won by Mrs F. W. Jotus.
